THE COMPANY
Planetel is an independent landline telephone operator offering innovative, high quality telephone, Internet and data services and is a recognised Italian market leader in Broadband Internet services and the development of integrated solutions and network for medium and large enterprises.
The company is a National OLO Telephone Operator, holding a general authorisation from the Ministry of Communications for the provision of a public-access telephone service and the realisation of telecommunications networks nationwide for landline telephone and broadband Internet services.
The Planetel Group employs about 150 people. Its administrative, sales and technical operations are concentrated at its headquarters at Treviolo (Bergamo).
The operations branches at Valmadrera (Lecco), Brescia and Bussolengo (Verona) provide technical and commercial assistance to customer enterprises in their areas.
Sister company Enjoip srl of Naples supports the commercial growth of Planetel services across large areas of central and southern Italy.
Planetel is an âInternet Service Provider â (ISP and WISP), provides Web services and holds a General Authorisation issued by the Ministry of Communications. It supplies a direct, complete network applications service, providing a one-stop shop for the assignment and management of IP addresses on the global Internet Access network, thanks to its âLIRâ and âAutonomous Systems ASâ status issued by the RIPE. Planetel is also a Maintainer of web domains and directly handles their publication.
Planetel offers a full set of IP communication and broadband Internet solutions with packages tailored for the needs of small, medium and large enterprises, professionals and residential users throughout Italy. Products and services include broadband and ultrabroadband packages in various modes (xDSL, FTTC, FTTH, FTTP, radio connectivity), virtual bandwidth, managed hosting, managed housing and colocation services.
The offer includes MPLS-IP VPN solutions for large companies, based on Multiprotocol Label Switching technology and already chosen by major Italian corporations, which together with the xDSL access technology offer unique characteristics, delivering the low-cost realisation of large and small-sized convergent IP networks.
Thanks to the unique combination of our experience on ultrabroadband networks and IT systems, we are able to design and supply global integrated communication solutions to companies which base the success of their business on these factors.
Planetel was founded in 2001 as a provider of landline telephone services and Internet connections.
Over the years, the company has built up an offering strongly characterised by quality and technological innovation, with a considerable focus on the small and medium enterprise market, diversifying its business and extending it to embrace the wholesale, enterprise and residential markets. Today it is one of Italyâs leading operators, with a complete, highly professional range of services. The acquisition of companies operating on the ultrabroadband connectivity and Web services market has completed the offer portfolio and reinforced Planetelâs role as territorial leader.
In 2015, the company launched a project to lay proprietary optic fibre networks in various municipalities near Bergamo and Verona, with the aim of offering businesses and families ultrabroadband Internet access. Future development plans include the extension of the proprietary network in areas with high concentrations of industrial commercial and residential users.
In 2016 and 2017 the company opened new branches at Brescia and Bussolengo (Verona) to reinforce its commercial expansion and provide on-the-ground service to customer businesses in north-eastern Italy.
In 2017 the company activated a 270 km IRU backbone between Milan and Verona with a redundant high-speed backup circuit and boosted its share of the residential market by creating the Planetel Point retail network.
In 2018 Planetel extended its proprietary radio networks in the Lecco, Bergamo and Verona areas. The networks include 30 transmission hubs and serve over 2,000 Customers.
In 2019 Planetel was admitted to the London Stock Exchange Groupâs ELITE international programme established within Borsa Italiana in partnership with Confindustria for enterprises with high growth potential. The expansion of the offices and stores at the Treviolo headquarters was completed.
In 2020 the parent company Planetel obtained ISO 9001, ISO 27001 and ISO 37001 certification (the subsidiary Sitis Srl was already ISO 9001 certified). Planetel also received a clean bill of health from the Italian Competition Authority and was placed on the list of enterprises with Legality Rating.
The end of 2020 marked a turning-point in the life of the company, which first changed its legal form from a limited liability to a joint stock company and was then admitted for listing, from 30 December 2020, on the AIM Italia market, a multilateral trading system organised and run by Borsa Italiana S.p.A.
Planetelâs Optic Fibre infrastructure is over 1,400 kilometres in length and covers 99 Municipalities in the Bergamo, Brescia, Mantua and Verona area, which are fully wired with VDSL/ FTTCAB/ FTTH/ GPON technology controlled from the local ADSL switchboards.
